You can join her group on Facebook. Just look for mesothelioma Struggle. Due to Mavis`s recent devastating news ( may 2009 )having been diagnosed with Mesothelioma.our first thoughts were where on earth did she contract this. Well I worked in Chatham Dockyard when we were first maried in 1960.
The Doctor said yes thats possible as it takes 20 to 50 odd years to surface. Also her father worked in the Yard whilst she was growing up. The fibres can be inhaled from simply washing the clothes and hanging out to dry,or the dust from My hair. All it takes is one breathfull of the the dust,to sit silently for years.
On searching the web we find that almost everyone was at risk in the 60`s and even before that.
Just take a look at http://www.asbestos.com/products/
This is just some of the daily products used which contained asbestos.
If you think you were at risk I urge you to contact your GP. As there are no early symptoms. If you have it ,it sits dormant for years you cant loose it over time it doesnt go away,so dont ignore the posibility. At this time we are awaiting further tests and a decision on what course of action is next. There is no cure the condition is TERMINAL.
We will not bore you with gory details or doom and gloom. But this is for her friends to keep in touch and watch her progress.
The Journey from now on Continued.
